DATABASE

A set of related data and means to organise the data is termed as Database. The accessibility to the data is granted by data base management system which is integration of different type of software which gives the ground for interaction with more than one database and thus provides access to data contained in database. DBMS as a debonair performs numerous functions like storage, entry and retrieval of large amount of logical information and thus helps in managing and organising the data.

Database and the data management can be characterised into four different categories being:

  • Definition of data: Modification, removal and creation of definition which defines the compilation of data.

  • Update: Deletion, insertion and modification of original data.

  • Retrieval: Delivering information in the format that can be used directly or for future processing of other related application. The retrieved data may be represented in form it is stored in database or in other form which is obtained by combining or altering existing data.

  • Administration: Monitoring and registering users, monitoring performance, enforcing data security, dealing with concurrency control, maintaining data integrity and retrieving information that had been corrupted due to events like system failure.

Database is referred to the database model, database and database management system. Mostly, the database servers are a dedicated server that controls the database and runs only DBMS and other related software. These servers are multiprocessor computers with RAID and generous memory array meant for stable storage.

DBMS being a smart management tool has taken over the large part of the organisation and accumulated them under single roof to make them available at required point of time. Few of the importance of Database are:

  • Database helps in organising data efficiently and making it available at right point of time.

  • It allows the user to perform number of task at same point of time.

  • Database can organise, store and manage different kinds of information within single software application.

  • It helps in increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the business and also helps in reducing overall cost.

  • The system is useful for organisation as it can handle different category of data at same point of time.
